Тарас Я. Зимовий цикл календарної обрядовості українців у народознавчих і богословських дослідженнях Юрія Шумовського / Я. Тарас, В. Яремчук // Сторінки історії. –2023. – № 56. – С. 208-220.

Анотація: У статті на основі опрацювання творчого доробку Ю. Шумовського проаналізовано матеріали, присвячені обрядам, звичаям і традиціям українців зимового циклу свят — Нового року та Різдва Христового. Окреслено новий для народознавства підхід дослідника до висвітлення календарної обрядовості українців, який полягає у виборі як підґрунтя для характери-стики календарних свят не лише народознавчих знань, а й богословських учень, що передбачає розгляд сенсу календарної обрядовості крізь призму поєднання раціонального досвіду та релігійно-магічних вірувань українців із річним літургійним циклом православної церкви. Констатовано, що введення до наукового обігу результатів вивчення народознавчих праць ученого сприятиме належному представленню постаті Ю. Шумовського як етнолога та віддзеркаленню його етнографічної діяльності.

Winter Cycle of Calendar Rituals among Ukrainians in Ethnographic and Theological Research by Yuriy Shumovsky

Yuriy Shumovsky (1908–2003), a notable scholar who transitioned from priest-hood to become a world-renowned archaeologist, stands out among the prolif-ic figures in Ukrainian science and culture. Beyond his archaeological research, Shumovsky left a substantial ethnographic legacy, reflecting his dedication to the field of ethnography.This article aims to comprehensively explore Yuriy Shumovsky’s ethnographic and theological contributions, focusing on his research related to the calendar rituals of Ukrainians. The motivation behind this examination lies in the need to clarify the extent and significance of Shumovsky’s impact on the development of ethnographic science, ultimately portraying him as an accomplished ethnologist.The study draws upon Shumovsky’s works, specifically those addressing the rites, customs, and traditions of Ukrainians within the winter cycle of holidays, such as New Year and Christmas. Shumovsky’s distinctive ethnographic approach to interpreting these calendar rituals is highlighted. This approach considers not only ethnographic knowledge but also theological teachings, offering an inves-tigation into the meaning of calendar rituals by integrating rational experiences with the religious and magical beliefs of Ukrainians within the annual liturgical cycle of the Orthodox Church.By incorporating the findings from Yuriy Shumovsky’s ethnographic works into scholarly discourse, this article seeks to present him as a notable ethnologist and shed light on his significant contributions to ethnographic research.
